Baby Food

Ok all of you mommies out there. Daddies too of course. I've gotten a million different answers to this question and I want the general consensus.

When do you introduce foods other than formula to your baby? I know rice cereal should be first but now there is a study saying rice cereal is bad? Who really knows honestly. All I know is my daughter drinks a TON a day. She eats about 7 oz every 2 hours or so. It seems like she never stops eating.

Any advice or help would be wonderful :-)

I didn't know about the rice cereal but my daughter (6 months now) was recommended by the Doc to start introducing a tablespoon or two into her formula around 2.5 months. She had (well has) some more than average reflux issues.

They say to wait till six months for baby food but that you can start from 4+ I think it just depends on what you think she's ready for. I started my Daughter at about 5 months on baby food but I mixed in a little formula and cereal to keep her reflux going 'good'.

I read so many things on it and in the end I just did what I thought was right (though my Mil introduced my daughter to applesauce babyfood before I wanted to even start her on food...lol I won't get started on that).

Congrats on the new URL

Introducing solid food early on is a big no no. A lot of new moms do it because its something new and fun and exciting. If your baby is strictly breastfed, then they dont need any other form of nutrition until 12 months old. Which is what I did. If you formula feed, then they need a bit more to make up for the lack of nutrition found in breastmilk. Which would mean introducing solids at 6-8 months based on their weight gain. Always vegetables first. After the 12 month mark, I made all my own baby food. Puree it in your blender. Just cook some broccoli or sweet potatoes or carrots, greens beans, etc. And puree them. Dont add ANYTHING. Not even salt. Have fun experimenting with new foods!!
