Irene sucks

Well my town was hit pretty hard by Irene. We we're all evacuated on Sunday and came back Monday evening. Thankfully my house is just high enough that we didn't get any damage. But the water came to my front door. Our town flooded, our neighboring town flooded, and so on and so forth. We live on the Mohawk river and that's where all the water from everywhere else flows. So we got hit hard.

I'm ok, Abi is ok, and Bo is ok. Thankfully. I never thought I would have to live through ANOTHER flood. Just a couple years ago this happened too. We were really close to being completely wiped out. We have a gigantic damn near us and it was on the verge of breaking. If it did an immense amount of water would have flooded our entire town, like so many others had already been thanks to Irene.

Here are some pictures of my county.

The semi circle on the other side of that green tree line is our race track and where our fair should be today. The solid brown is the river which is about 250 ft above flood level. My house is just out of the picture in the bottom right hand corner. Thankfully my side of the bridge has a higher bank than the other.

This is our lock. As in it keeps the water from coming to us too fast or in too high of an amount. It just snapped right off.

This is one of the roads in my county. Thankfully not too close to me.

This is Schoharie. Just a couple miles away from where I live.

This is Windham, NY. Where I went countless times to snowboard.

Remember that previous bridge? Yea this is what's left. It completely collapsed later in the day.

So before you say something like "Why are people worrying about this storm?" remember that it affects everyone differently. My town is devastated, people have died, and it's going to be a long recovery.

I'm so glad all of you are okay. I'm so sick of people saying "Irene was no big deal." Clearly, she was.

I live in Saratoga Springs! It's crazy what damage has been done.

I am glad you are ok. I am sorry that your town was hit so hard. It is always very sad and unfortunate when there is a natural disaster that destroys towns and takes lives.
